After reviewing all the drawing supplies in my high school advanced students’ personal art supply kits, I let them choose a theme for their first project of the year. They decided on “Living Things” and each chose a topic within the theme. Lots of animals were chosen and one flower. The strategy for this year was to front-load instruction and build confidence in using the available materials so that when a student was quarantined- which has happened to all but one of my advanced students at least once first semester- they were able to continue working from home.
