Kusama Inspired Dot Sticker Artwork

Here is a throwback lesson to last school year when I taught my elementary classes via zoom from my classroom to theirs! I introduced each grade to a modern or contemporary artist and 3rd grade learned about Yayoi Kusama. I read them a book about her but for the life of me I can't remember which one! I will share this resource from the Tate about her- https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/explore/who-is/who-yayoi-kusama because it would work really well.
I came across a big bunch of dot stickers like people use for garage sales when I was cleaning out a drawer so those became the special material for this lesson. I gave each student a sheet of orange, yellow, and green and a piece of drawing paper. Then they were allowed to use the dot stickers however they wanted with the school supplies they had in their bins! It was interesting to see the different solutions they came up with. Some students even used the stickers as masks and removed them after coloring.

Sometimes we find materials and ask each other what project could be done with it, but I'd encourage you to present them to your students and see what they think of!

New Work on Redbubble

I posted back in January that I was trying out Redbubble and had posted some sticker designs.

My Happy Little Squirrel sticker has been my best seller by far!
Just a tip- Redbubble allows you to search for the artwork or the product. So if you see a design you like in a search but you're like "well that's cool but I don't need Mr.Rogers on a throw pillow" you can almost always view that same artwork on dozens of other products so you can find something that's more your speed and budget!

When I saw an announcement that they were going to be adding masks as a product option I got really inspired and started making a lot of animal face mask designs, as well as adding some other digital art that I thought would work well on a mask.

I even made a cobra face mask design based on my school's mascot at the request of one of my colleagues!

Yesterday I started playing around with a loose color wheel idea and then made a bunch of different designs that I thought might interest art teachers. I got those uploaded last night.

There are so many cool products that you can get designs printed on from stickers to clocks, shower curtains, bags, leggings, shirts, dresses, and it goes on!
Just pretend the apron is surrounded by art supplies instead of baking supplies!

My Designs Now on Redbubble!

Several of my students collect vinyl stickers so I wanted to show them how they can design their own for a project in my Computer Graphics class 2nd semester. I made a few of my own designs using the Adobe Draw app and opened in Illustrator to export as a PNG so that I could get a transparent background. I uploaded the designs to Redbubble and placed an order for my stickers as well as a few others I picked out. So I have a comparison, I also ordered 10 sticker samples from StickerMule. They should both arrive in the next couple of weeks. I also want to order some sticker paper so we can try printing and cutting our own. When that is done I will be able to weigh the pros and cons of each method.

Here are some of my designs. Each image should be linked to the shop.

There are a whole bunch of items you can order artwork on from stickers and t-shirts to shower curtains and clocks!

I had so much fun looking around on RedBubble that I uploaded some more artwork to my shop.

I will definitely keep RedBubble in mind as I do holiday shopping later this year!
