About

I am an artist and an art teacher in Holton, KS who believes in practicing what she preaches!

The first 13 years of this website were as an art education blog. All the ideas shared and lessons learned are still HERE but with most art education conversations now happening on social media, this space will shift to sharing my artwork.

I spent the first 6 years of my career teaching K-6 art at two elementary schools in Topeka, KS before moving to a K-12 position at Jackson Heights schools for 8 years. Since 2023 I have been the high school art teacher at my Alma mater, Holton High School. After completing my undergraduate degree earning a Bachelor of Science in Education for art and a minor in art history at Emporia State University in 2009, I earned a Master’s in Art Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2016. I am also a board member for the Kansas Art Education Association serving as Webmaster. KAEA/NAEA is a big part of my life. You can read why HERE!

My Teaching Philosophy

I have always needed to be creating something and some of my strongest childhood memories involve making art. When my children were younger and I was busy with grad school and adjusting to a new teaching assignment, my art got pushed aside a bit. Now that my children are old enough to be more independent, I have been making more art!

I still refuse to pick one focus, preferring to embrace new ideas and whichever media is best to communicate those ideas. In addition to portraiture and murals, I have been focusing on the idea of place and the native plants and animals connected to the land.
