You may have seen the picture of my "4S Line" poster floating around Pinterest. I posted it here back in September of 2010 after moving in to my new classroom and suddenly realizing that a sign posted near my lineup area might remind students of the school-wide "4S" expectation- that lines be straight, silent, still, and smiling.
Last year I was contacted by someone at Frog Street Press looking for the origin of the 4S Line to recognize them as inspiration for a new product. I told her that I made the poster but that my principal got the idea from a conference several years ago. Frog Street added a 5th "S" to turn the list into a rhyming poem and printed it upon a handy vertically hanging chart. I said that I would love to see the product when finished and even though I can't take credit for the concept, they were nice enough to mail me the Classroom Management Ready Reminders pack that I've decided to give away on Adventures of an Art Teacher!

The set includes the 5S Style chart as well as Seat Signals and School is Through, What do you do? These are more geared toward classroom teachers but I think 2 of the 3 could be used in an Art room as well. To be entered in the give away, just comment here with your name and favorite color (just because I can) by Friday, August 9th. I will use a random number generator to select a winner on Saturday morning. Sorry, US addresses only (the package is rather long and I don't know how much shipping will be). Make sure that I can either find your email via your Blogger ID or that you check back to see if you're the winner so I can get your address. You don't have to follow my blog to win, but it would be nice of you if you find anything useful here. :)
Let's review. To enter....

*I've not been compensated for this post, just thought it was nifty and wanted to share.
Katie this is awesome! I will not enter since I am teaching high school now and want someone else who can really put it to use to have it! What great exposure for that idea from your school and a fun contest idea! :)
ReplyDeleteHope your school year starts of on a high note! :)
I made a 4s line poster last year. It worked really well for having an orderly line at the end of class. I loved the smile part of the 4s'. Kids left art on a positive upbeat note. My favorite color is lime green.
DeleteLove your idea, Katie! How exciting that your idea is now published so many other teachers can benefit from it! My favorite color is blue.
DeleteKatie, you always have interesting posts! Love the 4S sign!

ReplyDeleteAwesome Katie!
ReplyDeleteHi Katie
ReplyDeleteI made a 4s poster last year after reading your blog post. It was so effective that two teachers at our school made their own!
I'd love a set with the 5th S!
