NAEA 2016

I've never been before and when I saw that NAEA will be coming back to the midwest in 2016 I decided that would be a good time to go! That will hopefully be my last semester in my graduate program and being the planner that I am, I've started brainstorming ways to raise the necessary funds and trying to talk friends into going and sharing a hotel room. My schools are very supportive, but I'm not counting on the money being there and I don't want to put too much of a burden on my family... Except for my parents and in-laws, who I'm sure will be thrilled to have a few sleepovers with my kids while my husband is at work and I'm in Chicago. :)

Here's a question for those of you who have attended a national convention before- about how much has it cost you? I know that the cost of a flight will vary greatly, but what was your average cost for hotels, registration, meals, etc.? I'm thinking my money raising goal should be $1,000 because who knows what flights will be in two years! Does $1,000 sound like a reasonable amount?

  1. Wow! you are thinking ahead! I guess I would too, it's a lot of $ to put aside.... I won't be traveling to Chicago but when it comes back around to NYC I am seriously considering it... I could take the train ( 50 minutes ride in ) and come home the same day... would only have the conference costs...hmmmm....

  2. I am planning on going too! I went a few years back and Chi-town is fun for sure! Not sure if I'll fly or drive. Driving is long and boring... flying is expensive and way more fun since won't have kids with me and can relax! Decisions Decisions. I really want to go to New Orleans this year but that would be a much more expensive trip due to distance away!

  3. I've never been but I would def consider Chicago because I can take the train in. Do you know where it will be held? I would also consider sharing a hotel room.

  4. I went for the first time in 2013 to Fort Worth (and presented)...SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a grant for that year...and someone from my church gave us their points for the hotel!! Last year I went to San Diego and presented....I did a crowd funding site for that. LOVED IT. I'm broken hearted not to be able to go to NO, LA. :( Such a great time to get great ideas & meet amazing like minded(and some not so like minded..but fun) people!!! I am planning on being there in 2016!!!!
