I try to do the same with my lessons, although I find it difficult to strike a balance between the two, as well.

Isn't it the best thing ever when you read their written insights on a description to go with their artwork? I especially like to admire the variety in their patterns of thought when I read Artist Statements that my students have written.

So much more goes on in their minds than we can typically access through discussion (considering limitations on class time, the 'shyness' factor, and range of natural abilities in verbal vs written communication)!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11035392897909944557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-71038111560193423752013-02-08T17:15:26.459-06:002013-02-08T17:15:26.459-06:00Fine with me! I have an upcoming demo lesson for a charter school job, and I think due to the circumstances (supplies, class environment) this would be the perfect kind of lesson!Britt Keehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15554977407372348659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-35344761425628854562012-05-06T16:34:43.201-05:002012-05-06T16:34:43.201-05:00That would be my husband's side of the family ...That would be my husband's side of the family but I don't think so.Katie Morrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10056783451407075827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-6698757740642443572012-05-06T07:24:56.197-05:002012-05-06T07:24:56.197-05:00Katie, Are you related to Ellen Morris of San Ber...Katie, Are you related to Ellen Morris of San Bernadino, California?Kim Gnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-12707742747969485752012-04-11T22:06:02.626-05:002012-04-11T22:06:02.626-05:00Thank you, Sarah! I don't think MY younger students could handle this exactly, but I'm trying to come up with ways to give them more choices. They always ask when they can draw whatever they want, but when I give them a little time to do that, I find that a lot of them either scribble or do something sloppy or just "CAN'T" think of anything! I'm constantly trying to find a good balance.Katie Morrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10056783451407075827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-7809199449726266772012-04-10T07:17:47.216-05:002012-04-10T07:17:47.216-05:00Wonderful lesson! FYI...Yo...Wonderful lesson! Thanks for sharing.

FYI...You can sign up for a free Animoto educator account that allows you to create unlimited length videos. It also gives you the option of having up to 50 students create accounts (however they have to be 13 years of age or have parental permission). Just look for the education link at the bottom of the Animoto home page. I've been using it with my 7th grade computer art class for two years now and they love it!Sarahhttp://artdoane.weebly.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1592492505091408673.post-64432499415795109622012-04-10T05:18:44.739-05:002012-04-10T05:18:44.739-05:00What a great lesson! I like the idea of the artwork as inspiration and not being a direct copy -- that's how I teach. But when I walk into other schools and see that a teacher has assigned a recreation of "Starry Night" just for the sake of teaching a technique or medium, I get a little worried.

The results you got from this lesson are awesome! Way to go! -- JessicaOtterPophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12590097284154389714noreply@blogger.com
