Being Pregnant at School

I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby... and it has been really funny seeing how the kids, especially the younger students react.  I thought I told all the classes in the first week of school but either I missed a couple or some weren't paying attention (Never!)  Some students ask me every time they see me if the baby is still in my belly and I just point and ask them what it looks like.  Today, one of my Kindergarten students raised her hand when I asked if there were any questions, and looking VERY concerned, asked me what was wrong with my belly.  Last week, I had to put a bandaid on my foot (darn new shoes) and one of the little boys wanted to make sure I was ok.  I said I was fine and he kind of sang back to me "I hope you're doin' allright cuz you got a little bitty baby in your big belly with the bird on it!"  Hence, the photo of my older-than-me duck apron to make the whooooole quote make sense.  I'm just glad none of them have asked me a question I don't want to answer yet! :)

  1. I love the song! I am too! Only 22ish weeks though. So a lot of the classes are just finding out and the bilingual ones are totally excited my reg classes usually just look at my belly without blinking for a few seconds while I talk about her name and how they can help me in the coming weeks. I told them all baby Stella loves art for her room and they have been bringing tons of drawings, prayer candles, too cute! It's fun to see their response isn't it!

  3. I love it!! These kids will be talking to you about this baby for years. It will be a part of their lives as (if?) you come back. My school kids ask about Matisse and Sawyer all the time. They remember both leaves. I hope you can totally enjoy your time off with your bundle! Babies (kids) are the most amazing thing you will ever do! No one could ever fully explain that to you... I'm glad you get to experience it on your own. Enjoy and take it in!

PS... Have you tied to reach down to the bottom self of you kiln with that belly? That was a real challenge for this 5'2 person:)

  4. They are so sweet when they ask me "Mrs.Morris, how's your baby doing?" I would let you know if I could reach if I had a kiln! I'm 5'7" but I bet it would still be a challenge! My main thing is that I get "in trouble" with the other teachers if they catch me standing on a step stool. Makes it kind of tricky to hang artwork! :)

  5. haha, i "feel" your pain! but what is REALLY great is next year when your have a 1 year old, they'll ask how your little one is doing. and the next year, and the next year. it's awesome because they "know" your little one! (and, your kindergartners will be 5th graders by the time he/she is in K!!!!)

and yes, i did all kinds of things i shouldn't have while prego. including making it through the day while in labor just so i didn't have to do sub plans ;) EEK!
